Decimal storage (base 10)

Binary memory (base 2)

Reference
Files and drives 1 KB = 1,000 bytes, 1 MB = 1,000 KB, 1 GB = 1,000 MB
RAM and operating systems 1 KiB = 1,024 bytes, 1 MiB = 1,024 KiB, 1 GiB = 1,024 MiB
Network rates 1 byte = 8 bits; Mbps is a transfer rate, not the same as MB of storage
Tool Introduction

Use this data storage converter to translate between bits, bytes, KB, MB, GB, TB, PB and their binary KiB, MiB, GiB, TiB, PiB equivalents. It is built for file sizes, disk capacity checks, cloud storage estimates, backup planning, and memory specs.

Most drive makers and cloud providers use decimal units, where each step is 1,000 times larger. Operating systems and memory tools often use binary units, where each step is 1,024 times larger. This page shows both so the difference is clear before you copy a result.
