Tool Introduction

URL escaping (percent-encoding) turns unsafe characters into the %XX form so they can travel safely inside a URL. This tool encodes and decodes text both ways: Encode URI Component for query values and path segments, Encode URI for complete URLs, and Decode to turn %XX sequences back into readable text.

Per RFC 3986 the tilde ~ is a legal unreserved character and does not need encoding, but older implementations based on RFC 1738 escape it as %7E - tick the option if you need that legacy behaviour. The reference table below lists the reserved characters and their escaped forms; click any code to copy it. All processing happens locally in your browser - nothing is uploaded.
